What makes a shoe reliable for travel is if it deliberately helps relieve pain. With that being said, the first item in this list is a slip resistant tennis shoes by Z-Coil that has a pain relief system

This specialized footwear comes with a built-in rigid and strong orthotic that helps eliminate chronic pain in the foot by supporting and protecting your feet. In addition to this built-in orthotic, this specialized footwear also has a patented coil that is designed to lessen impact on the heel and thus reducing chronic pain, in the back, leg, and foot

In terms of the material it is made of, this footwear is created with a full grain leather that is soft as well as a breathable mesh that does not restrict your foot and helps with chronic pain in the foot. Additionally, the forefoot comes with a rounded soft cushion that protects the ball of your foot from any strain while walking

PROS

  • Strengthens foot with previous injury
  • thumbs-o-up
    Prevents sore feet or blisters
  • thumbs-o-up
    Reduces existing foot pain

CONS

  • May look a little weird, in appearance
  • May be a little unstable on terrain

The next on this roundup is one of my ultimate faves by Dream Pairs. One of the reasons why I have always regarded this as a favorite is because of its lightweight nature. If there’s anything I absolutely can’t stand when it comes to traveling, especially trips that involve a lot of walking, it’s wearing shoes that feel heavy on the feet

It feels I have to drag my feet everytime I walk. In addition to this, it also immensely helps that these pair of shoes, like numerous others in in this list, are made out of a breathable mesh

This breathable knit mesh also has a flexible sole. This makes it totally easy for you to slide in your feet. Inside, you will find that your feet will be comforted with some strategically placed extra cushion that provides added physical ease to your feet

If you’re worried about stability, you can start to breathe a sigh of relief as these pair come with a Velcro strap that is totally adjustable, catering to your feet

PROS

  • Very lightweight
  • thumbs-o-up
    Feet slide in easily
  • thumbs-o-up
    Looks physically appealing

CONS

  • Not ideal for weightlifting
  • Sizes run smaller than usual

Third on this list is brought to you by Z-Coil. There’s just something really special about the specialized footwear released by Z-Coil and this pain relief footwear that comes with a freedom slip is no exception.

Now, much like the previous footwear by Z-Coil that I featured in the first item, these shoes also come with a patented coil that helps reduce contact by 50% and thus, also helps prevent back pain, leg, and foot pain

Another iconic constant that can be found in numerous Z-Coil footwear is their legendary strong orthotic that helps reduce sciatica symptoms such as heel spurs as well as foot pain

Additionally, what I have also found to be very helpful about this specialized footwear is the extra cushion that it comes with which helps protect your foot and toes and as a result, helps relieve pain

Furthermore, if you are having trouble walking due to previous injury, these pair of shoes come with a rocker bottom, a flex line at the forefoot, and a wide toe box that helps lessen pressure

PROS

  • Keeps foot cool with its breathable mesh
  • Stable and helps you walk on uneven terrain
  • Perfect for those with previous foot and leg injury

CONS

  • May not be slip resistant
  • May not look physically appealing

Fourth on the list is the first high-tops that I will feature in this review roundup. And here’s why. At first sight, it does not look like your typical athletic shoes, especially with its vintage look

However, don’t let that appearance fool you, these pair of shoes provides relief for those struggling with sciatica. Let’s first take a look at the toe box or the space that houses the toe. The toe box is spacious and provides added comfort for your feet

Next, let’s take a look at the heel. One thing I really appreciate about this is the leather panel that trails all the way to the heel

This leather area gives off a heel counter that I have found to be very helpful when it comes to keep your heel safe and secure. With these features and the high-top structure, these pair of shoes surely help reduce impact on the sciatic nerve

PROS

  • Very lightweight
  • Built-in heel counter
  • Comes with a leather panel that protects heel

CONS

  • Does not come in half-sizes
  • Has a small and narrow shape

Entry is definitely one of my faves, most especially when it comes to its appearance. It’s good enough when I find a shoe that helps with dealing chronic pain in the leg, back, and feet, but it sure does feel like a gift from heaven whenever I find a pair that also looks sleek and edgy

This running shoes by Reebok come with thick outsoles which I find has been very helpful when it comes to pressure that your feet may feel

Moving to the inward soles, your feet get the same level of protection from external pressure and chronic pain. The insoles are made out of a reliable thick foam that helps with lessening impact from the ground when your feet make contact with it

And lastly but most certainly not the least, these pair of shoes come with features that provide extra protection for the sciatic region. With a heel counter as well as a spacious room for toe, this surely is worth the spend

PROS

  • Looks sleek and edgy
  • Provides protection for the sciatic region
  • Has a thick outsole foam that lessens pressure
  • thumbs-o-up
Thick insoles that reduce impact from the ground

CONS

  • Not ideal for cold weather

For Women

Next, let’s move onto the ladies shoe section. First one on the women’s list is one of my faves, most especially for its physical appeal. This Gravity Defyer shoes does not just help relieve pain but also comes in many color combos, depending on your taste, you can pick one that suits your preference

These shoes by Gravity Defyer utilizes what they call a VersoShock Technology which is basically a spring system that is also patented which takes in the shock and pressure from the ground into a positive energy

Now, one of the most common sciatica symptoms is an immense heel pain but sometimes this could also be a sign of plantar fasciitis which these pair of shoes seek to address. These shoe pair is equipped with a rocker sole at the front that aims to support the heel area of your feet

In addition, it also comes with insoles that are removable which allows you to cater to orthotic support, especially custom made ones

PROS

  • Insoles are seamless
  • Insoles are removable
  • Absorbs impact from the ground
  • thumbs-o-up
Provides extra support for the heel area

CONS

  • Small sizes
  • Toe box is slightly narrow

Next up is another trusty and comfy pair of running shoes. Much like the previous entry, this pair of specialized footwear comes in many color combinations

Feel free to pick whatever suits your tastes the most. However, what really drew me in to these pair is a technology system that they utilized to provide the utmost pain relief to chronic pain in the foot. This technology is what you call the Rearfoot Gel Brand Tech which reduces shock and impact when your feet makes contact with the ground

In addition, these pair of specialized footwear are also equipped with insoles or sockliners that are totally removable. This allows you to cater your orthotic. Another feature that I believe sets ASICS apart is its rubber outsole that is equipped enough to handle abrasion

They ensures you that your pair of shoes are extra durable. But that’s not the only thing good about the outsole. It also provides you with enough grip and resistance so you are safe and secured when walking on uphill or downhill terrains

PROS

  • Thick rubber outsoles
  • Reduces ground impact
  • Has enough grip, perfect for terrains
  • thumbs-o-up
Removable sock liners, ideal for medical orthotic

CONS

  • May not be ideal for high arches

These Edge Waterproof shoes by Merrell is made out of a mesh fabric material that gives your feet ample space to breathe

With its 4 millimeter lug sole depth, these shoes help absorb and reduce impact and pressure from the ground. But that’s not the only thing that makes its air cushion heel one of the best. Its footbed is not just made to absorb the shock but to also add stability to your walk

One more thing that makes this especially ideal for walking is that it helps secure the right stance by always making sure that your feet are in the correct placement. This is especially helpful for those suffering from sciatica

Next, let’s take at the toe box. For those who are not just struggling from sciatica but also from ginger foot, you’ll be happy to know that its toe box is very spacious compared to some running shoes

PROS

  • Adjusts stance
  • Spacious toe box
  • Thick lug sole depth
  • thumbs-o-up
    Reduces ground impact

CONS

  • Squeaky soles
  • Slippery in the rain

With the amount of traveling I do, it’s no surprise that I have become accustomed to numerous ankle, foot, and leg conditions. That said, orthotics have been developed to address these conditions

Much like an orthotic from which Orthofeet is derived from, their Orthopedic Athletic Shoes for Women also aims to address these problems. These pair comes with one of the most reliable orthotic support

These are equipped with orthotic insole that provides extra support for the arch. Another thing I appreciated about this is that its pad on the heel comes with a cushion that adapts to your foot as you walk

In addition, they also utilize a technique called the Ortho-Cushion System which is a lightweight sole that allows your foot breathe more. What this does exactly is it that it strategically and biomechanically relieves pain from your feet joints

This also helps stabilize your stance. Moreover, these pair has an extra depth design as well as a spacious toe box that provides extra comfort your feet.

PROS

  • Spacious toe box
  • Breathable mesh lining
  • Relieves pain from feet joints
  • thumbs-o-up
    Ortho-Cushion system; lightweight sole

CONS

  • Velcro may sometimes fail to hold

Last but most certainly not the least, here’s another entry by Orthofeet. However, this time it’s a little kind of different. Instead of featuring a typical sneaker type of shoes, I’m presenting you a slip-on shoes

One common misconception is that the only type of shoes than can cater to the needs of those struggling from sciatica, injury or chronic pain at your leg and feet are a pair of sneakers

Well, Orthofeet is here to disprove you. These pair of slip ons come with the orthotic support you see in sneakers. The insoles are comes with an arch support as well as heel pad that caters to your feet

Much like the previous Orthofeet pair of specialized footwear, this one also utilizes an extra depth design that help address pain and pressure often felt in the joints of the feet

Furthermore, it features the same Ortho-Cushion System which provides you with a lightweight sole that is extremely helpful when it comes to walking

PROS

  • Insoles come with arch support
  • Works with more put-together outfits
  • Comes with the same lightweight system as sneakers

CONS

  • Rubber on the side may peel off easily

What is Sciatica: Sciatica Symptoms, Causes, Pain Management

Sciatica is perhaps one of the most common condition that affects your sciatic nerve. But what is this sciatic nerve?

Well, this is a nerve that trails from your lower back all the way to the back of each of your legs. A lot of times, this condition affects your feet and therefore, affects a lot of your doings, as well, as this often affects your walk

So how can you exactly find out if you are suffering from sciatica? Well, here are some of the most common sciatica symptoms:

Best Shoes for Sciatica
  • Pain in the heel of your feet
  • Struggling to move the feet or leg
  • A burning sensation at the lower leg
  • Pain at the back of your leg; this can get worse when you sit down

Those are only some of the symptoms but next let’s take a look what exactly cause sciatica to happen. All too often, the main cause of this condition is an irritation in the roots of your lower lumbar as well as your lumbosacral spine

Some things that may aggravate your pain more are wearing high heels, not doing exercises frequently or regularly, and sleeping on a hard mattress

So how can you exactly address this condition? Well, first and foremost thing you can do to address this condition is by wearing specialized footwear for sciatica. But the next best thing you can do is to get over-the-counter pain relievers. You may also visit doctor to ask for prescription for persisting pain

What to Look for in Shoes for Sciatica

In this section, let’s take a closer look at the specific features that you need to spot when looking for shoes that can best address and relieve the pain that comes with sciatica

Best Shoes for Sciatica

1. Breathable Material

One thing that you need to always keep in mind when dealing with sciatica is that it is all about pressure that is felt on the feet. For this very reason, I have found it to be extremely helpful when the shoes that I am wearing is made out of a breathable mesh lining as this gives enough room for my feet to breathe. This is really helps in taking away pressure from the feet

2. Spacious Toe Box

The next feature I also always look for in shoes is the toe box. Aside from the heel, if there’s one area of the feet or foot that receives a lot of pressure, it would definitely be the toes. That said, I always try to spot specialized footwear that is equipped with a wide toe box that will give my toes ample space to breathe. This also reduces pressure from the toes as the shoes do not squish them

3. Lessened Pressure

The third feature to look for is perhaps the most essential one as this is the heart of any specialized footwear that is made specifically for people struggling from sciatica

However, take note that to achieve lessened pressure, shoe manufacturing companies or brands utilize different systems or technologies. Perhaps, one of my most favorite one is the technology and system that allows impact and pressure from the ground to be translated to a renewed positive energy

While not every shoes are equipped with the translator technology, most, if not all, specialized footwear is able to address pressure and impact from the ground and is able to reduce it. Other ways of achieving lessened pressure is to utilize a lightweight system that allows you almost feel as if you’re not wearing any shoes

4. Removable Insoles

Lastly but still a very essential feature is removable insoles. Now, before you scrunched up in confusion, let me clear this up. When the insoles are removable, this allows you to have space for your medical orthotics

These are basically a type of brace that is used to provide support for the ankles. If you have yet to get yourself one, then just make sure that the shoes you will be getting have removable insoles

Final Thoughts

Given all the mentioned features above, I have to give it to Reebok Men's Runner 2.0 MT Running Shoe for men and Gravity Defyer Proven Pain Relief Women's G-Defy Mighty Walk for women. These two are at my top faves for its features that really address the chronic pain you feel in your foot

Best Shoes for Sciatica

With their breathable material and extra wide toe box, you are sure to have extra space to breathe for your feet. The latter, especially, has a special technology that allows it to transfer the pressure and impact from the ground to positive energy. It also has removable insoles that allow you to put your medical orthotics. The thick foams of the former also help address the pressure
